Visit SOLMACC demonstration farm Hånsta Östergärde’s open field day 2/09 to learn about climate friendly farming practices
In this field day, on Wednesday 2 September 2015, we will demonstrate and discuss the climate-friendly practices that are being implemented on the Hansta Östergärde farm, including newly planted alleys of trees, fruit trees and hazelnuts grown together with cereals. The farm also has a well-established system for soil preparation in forestry using pigs as well as smaller trials and research on perennial cereal varieties. As part of the day we will also have a workshop where we will discuss the development of agroforestry systems in Sweden. With: Maria Dirke (Ekologiska Lantbrukarna), Oscar Franzén (Ekologiska Lantbrukarna), Kjell Sjelin (Hånsta Östergärde)
Climate friendly farms preparing for departure The SOLMACC[i] project is in full swing: all farms participating in the five year demonstration period have been found and are currently being visited by a team of researchers and extensionists to determine the precise farming techniques to be applied from autumn 2014. In a recent meeting of the project steering committee of the SOLMACC (June 11 to 12) in Freising, Germany, experiences and impressions from the first farm visits were shared and demonstrated that all farmers are highly committed to use their farms for the demonstration of climate friendly practices.
